Prenatal Exposure Assessment Team (PEAT) is a state grant-funded initiative supported by Nevada's Department of Behavioral and Public Health. The PEAT aims to proactively identify and support at-risk youth through 1) interdisciplinary screening for prenatal substance exposure (PSE) and 2) educating caregivers and professionals about the essential developmental and behavioral needs of children and youth affected by PSE.
Our interdisciplinary approach assesses the developmental, behavioral, and health aspects of children and youth impacted by PSE, with a particular focus on prenatal alcohol exposure. The target group includes children, youth, and their parents or caregivers. Our team consists of pediatricians, psychiatrists, and psychologists. We also provide families and caregivers with evidence-based recommendations to manage complex needs, aiming to reduce the risk of future substance use.
Our community-based education programs are designed for parents, caregivers, and professionals working with children and youth affected by PSE. The goal is to enhance understanding of risk and protective factors related to PSE and to promote evidence-based strategies to prevent substance use disorders in this population. The target audience includes caregivers of youth with PSE and professionals working with individuals impacted by PSE.
