More than two dozen students have gained valuable, real-world insight into careers in the logistics industry through the Gig Program, a summer internship partnership of and the College of Business at the ҹɫƵ.
“It’s a way to connect education with purpose,” said Lynda Sohl, logistics learning solutions manager at the Arrow Electronics location in Reno. “Our Gig-terns work on real projects that make a meaningful impact on our operations. Students are encouraged to identify problems, propose solutions, and present their ideas — giving them hands-on experience and exposure to the practical challenges of supply chain management.”
Gig-terns are involved with projects such as data analysis, process-improvement, problem-solving and support of operational teams. The company’s leaders provide guidance and support to Gig-terns through the 10-week program, which culminates with presentations by students to the leadership team.
Arrow Electronics, headquartered in Centennial, Colo., is a global provider of electronic components and enterprise computing products. The company ranks No. 154 in the 2025 Fortune 500 list of U.S. corporations by total revenue and has been recognized for 12 consecutive years at the top of its industry ranking on Fortune's “World's Most Admired Companies” list.
The company dedicates five spots to the Gig Program each summer. It was launched in 2023.
Sohl said students are ready to contribute from the moment they arrive.
“Under the leadership of Robyn Brunscher, director of the , the University has developed a strong foundation that prepares students to contribute meaningfully from day one. Robyn makes sure the students come equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to thrive in a real-world logistics environment, which makes a noticeable difference in their impact during the internship,” she said.
Paige Zolldan, assistant director of career services in the Career and Corporate Outreach Center at the College of Business, said Arrow Electronics, a corporate partner of the college, has played a key role in empowering the next generation of leaders in technology and business.
“The Gig Internship Program offers students more than just a resume experience, it’s an immersive, high-impact opportunity to gain hands-on experience with a global technology leader,” said Zolldan. “Through this internship, students develop in-demand skills, receive mentorship from industry professionals, and contribute to projects that align with their career goals. It's a chance to apply classroom knowledge and expand their network.”
She said Arrow Electronics’ close work with the College is represented at many campus events every year and reflects the company’s commitment to innovation, talent development and community impact.
