University rises 12 spots to No. 192 among national universities

The ҹɫÊÓÆµ has again been recognized as one of the nation’s top institutions in the 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings, released Sept. 23, 2025.

The University is ranked No. 192 among national universities, climbing 12 spots from last year. Universities and colleges that are ranked offer a full range of undergraduate majors, master’s and doctoral programs and are committed to producing groundbreaking research.

The University is also ranked No. 104 among Top Public Schools, jumping nine spots in the rankings. Public institutions in this category operate under the supervision of state governments and are funded, in part, by tax dollars and subsidies from the state.

The U.S. News & World Report rankings evaluate more than 1,700 colleges and universities, using up to 17 factors to measure academic quality and graduate success. Measures contributing to the U.S. News' 2026 rankings, released Sept. 23, 2025, include graduation rate performance, faculty resources, student selectivity and preparedness, financial resources, alumni giving, reputation based on input of high-school counselors and a peer-assessment survey with university leaders nationally.

U.S. News publishes the Best Colleges rankings each year to provide prospective students and their families with the comparative merits of the undergraduate programs at America’s colleges and universities. The rankings offer detailed information about the institutions and data on such as graduation rates, graduate indebtedness and post-graduate earnings. 

Ranking highlights included:

  • 138 in the best colleges for veterans category, increasing by seven spots. This ranking evaluates schools that make pursuing a college education more affordable for veterans and active-duty service members.
  • The University's College of Business is ranked No. 194 in undergraduate business programs, moving up 28 spots from last year. To be ranked, the college or program must be accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. The Princeton Reviewlists the College of Business in its Best Business Schools. The undergraduate in economics program ranked No. 216.
  • The University’s undergraduate engineering programs ranked No. 150. This measurement is based solely on peer assessment surveys. To appear on an undergraduate engineering survey, a school must have an undergraduate engineering program accredited by ABET. The undergraduate computer science program, housed in the College of Engineering, ranked No. 193, climbing 47 spots.
  • The Bachelor of Science in Nursing ranked No. 186
  • Undergraduate psychology program, ranked No. 130.

 

Other rankings released by U.S. News & World Report include the graduate school rankings, and Best Online school rankings, released earlier in 2025.  Standings for University programs include:

  • College of Education and Human Development: No. 81 in best graduate education schools and No. 63 among the best online master’s in education programs.
  • College of Engineering: No. 120 in best graduate engineering schools; No. 160 in computer science; Tied for spots 74-97 for online master’s in information technology programs.
  • School of Medicine: No. 21 in the Physician Assistant Studies program and No. 120 in the Speech-Language Pathology program.
  • College of Sciences: No. 91 in clinical psychology, No. 59 in graduate level Earth sciences, No. 175 in biological sciences, No. 136 in chemistry, No. 152 in physics, No. 92 in statistics.
  • College of Business: No. 126 in economics.
  • College of Liberal Arts: No. 97 in English, No. 21 in best fine arts programs, No. 120 in history, No. 107 in political science.
  • School of Public Health: No. 84 in public health.
  • School of Social Work: No. 142 in social work.
  • School of Nursing: No. 53 in online master’s in nursing programs.

While national rankings offer useful benchmarks, the University’s Office for Prospective Students encourages individuals and families to conduct first-hand research when selecting a college.
