Admissions

Students are admitted to the Nutrition Graduate Program on a competitive basis.

Prerequisite courses

Students who seek admission to the program should have completed these undergraduate courses (or equivalent courses, as determined by the Graduate Program directors):

  • General Chemistry (Chemistry 121)
  • Organic Chemistry (Chemistry 220A, 220L or Chemistry 341, 342, 345)
  • Anatomy & Physiology (Biology 223, 224)
  • Microbiology (Biology 251)
  • Algebra & Trigonometry (Math 128)
  • Principles of Nutrition (Nutrition 223)
  • Biochemistry (Biochemistry 400)
  • Advanced Nutrition (Nutrition 452)

Minimum qualifications

The Department and Graduate School have set minimum qualifications for admittance to the Nutrition Graduate Program, which include:

  • An undergraduate degree in Nutrition or a related area with:
    • A GPA of 3.0 or higher (4.0 scale).
    • Official transcripts from every institution attended.
    • A Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) Verification Statement or a Declaration of Intent from your DPD Director (Dietetics Specialization ONLY).
  • Competitive GRE scores (waived for applicants with a graduate degree but still recommended).
  • Competitive TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo exam score if English is your second language. Minimum scores for admission and assistantships are:
    • TOEFL: 79
    • IELTS: 6.5
    • Duolingo: 105
  • A statement of purpose indicating career goals and research interests. The use of generative AI in essays must be disclosed and justified. Essays flagged as AI-generated without disclosure will not be reviewed.
  • Three letters of recommendation.
