Summary
Hi! My name is Dorota Zabnicka, and I am a Graduate Teaching Assistant for the Honors College at the 夜色视频. I am very much looking forward to working with students from the Honors College as it fosters an environment of collaboration, creativity, and engagement with the university, the community, and fellow students.
I was born in Poland and immigrated in the early 1990's to San Diego, CA. I dealt with the struggle of starting school not having a good command of the English language which is something I have shared with so many non-native speakers. During my twenties, I worked as an Interior Designer, but it did not fulfill me. I quickly realized I need a career that challenges me. I then went back to school and received a degree in Anthropology with a focus on the human skeleton in both archaeological and forensic settings.
Since getting my masters, I have become a Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) and have worked as an archaeologist with various entities and local tribes to preserve and protect their cultural heritage. I have also taught at local San Diego colleges in Anthropology where I have helped students grow and achieve more than they hoped -- some even changing their degree to biology or even anthropology once they discovered the right technique of studying and learning. Sometimes it's just learning how your brain absorbs information and what you need to do to be successful. This is another reason I am excited to work with the Honors College -- to provide students with the tools they individually need to be successful.
Outside of the classroom, I am very passionate about family and my loved ones. I prioritize making time to share moments and create memories. I also love to read, go camping and ride dune buggies in the desert, as well as just sitting around a table with good food and good conversation.
